Cruise Essentials

Updated: Aug 15, 2022

All the gadgets and gizmos you didn't know you needed on a cruise

I'm not going to do a list of 50 things you need because they are mostly the obvious items such as clothes and sunscreen, these are a few items you may never thing of needing, but will make your like way easier on board.

I have added some links below a few of the items listed, these will take you to Amazon. Disclaimer: These are Amazon affiliate links so I will receive a small commission if you use these links, but they will not cost anymore for you!

Seasickness Medication

If you think you might suffer from seasickness then better to be safe - check out a variety of options on my post "Don't Let Seasickness Ruin Your Cruise!"

Some cruise lines will also offer seasickness medication options at the reception desk when the journey is particularly rough.

Tide to Go

Wrinkle release

These two are sort of a package deal, especially on a cruise where the laundry facilities are usually pretty expensive. It's nice to have an option of your own mini laundrette in your bag. Ideal to clean up any marks or spills on your clothes or the option to get rid of those wrinkles in your shirt in time for the formal night!

Magnetic Hooks

Most of the walls in a cruise ship cabin are made of metal, so by packing a few magnetic hooks it gives you extra spaces to hang up your outfit for the next day, or a toiletries bag or even just to pin your itinerary to the wall.

Tupperware Box/Lunch Box

Now cruises aren't cheap, and I'm all for maximising on everything available. Some days when you're in port it isn't possible to get back to the cruise ship in time for lunch, so if you're not too bothered about trying the local food in whatever destination you are in this is an easy option to get the most out of the food on board. Depending on your cruise line will depend on what food you have available, but on my last trip with Royal Caribbean I would go to the buffet either the day before or the morning of our day trip and fill a lunch box with salad and pastries, and keep it in our cabin fridge until the last minute. This also worked well for carrying snacks around too.

Water Bottle

Coffee Cup

These two are my sustainability must-haves, especially on a ship where you're likely to be moving around, taking your coffee up to the top deck in a morning. You may as well save on single use plastic and take away cups by just bringing your own.

Lanyard

Just somewhere to keep your sea pass card safe as this is your access to and from the ship and how you will buy food and drink on board.

Beach Towel Clips

It is unsurprisingly pretty windy on the deck on a cruise ship so I'd also recommend towel clips just to stop your towel blowing away whilst you're in the pool/ grabbing a drink.
